my first call experience

yesterday i worked from 9am to 4am, which is only two-third of a normal call day... i personally think that's long enough even for a junior-most trainee... i finally have an idea about what's going to happen... my blues due to uncertainy is getting better...

during student days, i'm often told a few things... i didnt really agree then but now i reckon they're the truth and nothing but the truth...

1. whenever tutors gave us case scenarios, they began with "in the middle of the night, u're the only one around..." i thought come on, it's an hospital... even in the middle of the night... there should at least be a nurse around... but no... it really happens, only u around...

2. fellow interns always told me... "o u dont have to worry about the work... becoz u don't need a brain to do houseman's tasks..." surprisingly, is true...

3. "terrible nurses call u at 3am to set up drips..." i thought it's okay if i happen to be around, i have to set the drips some time anyway... but no, at that time u're so tired that u can't be bothered to set a drip... even if the patient is next to u...

4. "wear gym shoes to work... or your feet sores after a call night..."

5. "u'll remember the first patient u resuscitated..."

thanks to the current interns who're super nice to go through with me everything and bear with my ultra-slowness... and allow me to do things and back me up... i must say CU people are very nice... it's actually quite happy to work in pairs in the middle of the night when the hospital is quiet... but when i'm to cover some 6-8 wards alone... um... that's another story...

mold mold mold

rain rain rain... my home has become a huge piece of agar... even a new super dehumidifier cannot stop the mold mold population... today, a microbiologist said fungus takes a long period of 28 days to culture... here it takes only 28 hours... perhaps they should move their lab here... this morning all my formal shoes have mold mold on them... i'm thinking perhaps i've got plenty of fungi in my lungs, too... did i mention i've seen my first invasive aspergillosis patient in london and it's the last thing u want to have... now i have to rely on the ultimate weapon mr. sun to defeat the mold mold... think he's travelling somewhere...

yummy oysters

thanks to guen^2 and rpl... we had a superb dinner at tst island seafood & osyter bar today... all the oysters we ordered arrived today... freshness is so important for oysters... becoz they're fresh, they all tasted good... cool... like the best i've had in hong kong in the past years... they have the largest bulk of oysters arriving thursdays, so that would be the best day for oyster fans...

trainees

yesterday i had lunch with mum&dad... a waitress with a "trainee" nametag was working very hard to refill our glasses with water... i asked a question about the menu and she looked very lost... she was like "erh... let me check check..." then went for her seniors for help...

today the rabbit and i went to add an extra hole to his new belt... the saleslady showed us in action that this is a task she does for her first time...

it's so real... as if i'm seeing what'll happen to me... i'm gonna show people that i dunno a thing and i do things for the first time... ai... both the rabbit and i are very tolerant to them becoz we know we'll be the same tmr...

my law of kisskiss

me: let me ask u an IQ question... if someone gives u a bigbig kiss, and u think it's too big... what do u do?

mum: erh...

me: u can give her a change... if u return another bigbigkiss then u actually get a small one!

mum: (sweating) hahaha...

hello mickey

today i took an mtr train... and i noticed a new station called sunny bay on tung chung line... where you can change to a pink line, the disneyland resort line, which of course goes to the new disneyland... yes i just learnt it an hour ago... maybe it's there for some time already... but yes i'm slow with news, as always...

by the way... i met mickey's friend last night in central... i've never seen a real rat before... so naturally i screamed... rabbit and egg said i should apologize to the rat becoz my scream made it released the piece of food it carried in its mouth...

hazelnut cafe latte

my current favourite coffee... i tried it in beijing haagen dazs and it was excellent... i ordered it again at times sq h.d... expresso + milk + hazelnut syrup + toffee are all liquid... theoretically should mix well in a cup... but they dont... syrup too sweet, expresso too bitter and milk too "rough"... 3 distinct taste instead of 1... no good...

all the same

now all our intern placements are settled... and we're halfway through the pre-internship block... i'm getting the pressure about this work thing... i'm actually pretty worried that i'm not competent enough to handle the job... not to mention my first round is real tough...

i believe at least 80% of my classmates have the same feeling... i notice in the past months (or even years) people in my class actually have very similar thinking... remember i said all of us underwent the same dark age during the final mb... and now the same uncertainty about the year ahead... and of course the same worry about getting a training post...

apparently it's understandable... because we went through the same things so we people think alike... but i doubt it... in london, i chatted with medical students in my group... they're distinctly different individuals... they went through similar things in their medical school, too... but their views towards study is different and their career plans are very diversified... is it the education and everything we've gone through here that have shaped us into a flock of similar viewless figures??? sad...

scary impression

today i dated my high school mates to my alma mater... becoz i thought it's the open day... in fact, it's going to be held the same day next month... omg... me really sorry to my mud^2 and seung^2 for having to come out on this hot-as-oven day...

now in retrospect, i think this is really really scary... i hv read about this open day thing for a couple of times... i read it first in an icq message... then i read the website... then i even read the banner at school... but still... i cant see the word july there and keep telling myself it's june... now i see how powerful and horrible one's impression can be... if this kind of silly thing happened 3 weeks later... i (or someone else) am dead... how scary... to be honest i dont think one can keep oneself free from mistakes when one is deeply deprived of sleep...

tennis tennis

today i played tennis with jjj, little rabbit and his very adventurous brother, the big rabbit... long since i did any sports... it's super hot today... but i'm very happy... becoz there're 3 boys (o, they're almost men now) playing with me and they're forced to play childish tennis becoz i was there... u know, they had to hit gently so that i hv some chance to hit back despite they wanna hit hard to show off their skills...

the phrase my rabbit said most was "sorry sorry sorry" (note that each time it comes in pack of 3)... and the phrase the big rabbit said most was "mo waai" (ie don't worry), this is a phrase said by ppl in the goddamn hall, he said this to me, becoz i was too rubbish... the phrase i said most was "aiya"... jjj was busy scratching his legs so he didn't say much...

my rabbit and jjj were the most luvly players... together they earned more than 5 dozen kisses from mosquitoes... i was less luvly, thanks to the guard who lent me his OFF! i only earned half a dozen... where the big rabbit, for some unknown reason... is the least popular... he had no kisses after the 2 hours...

**discovery** i just noticed that OFF! is under a company named SC Johnson, which has nothing to do with johnson&johnson...

shadow photography

hurray... my Hello is finally working...

in spain... i took pictures of shadows when i had nothing to do... i call it "shadow photography"... pretty nice huh? u know when u're not good in anything... find something weird and specialise in them... it looks pro...

the silver ying

poor silver ying... yyb was driving the silver ying when it rained like cats & dogs on saturday...

rain was so heavy there's dirty "soil" water splashed onto the body of the silver ying... after parking, yyb went clean it... he put his finger onto the "soil" thing and found it sticky... yeeee... right this is not "soil"... dar, it's bitumen... alas... yyb quickly brought the silver ying to service... he's so smart this time... he brought it there before it's dried up... the workmen managed to clear it with steam jet... he said if it's dried.. he'll have to lift the whole layer of paint and repaint and rewax the car... wah... lucky silver ying...

so the conclusion is... if u happen to find darkish soilish dirt on your car... don't assume it's water-soluble detergent-cleanable... try wash it off asap... if it happen to be bitumen... take it to service before it's too late...

happy birthday, boys & gals

yesterday i celebrated the bdays of my all-time best friends and my dearest rabbit... though yesterday's no one's bday... everything went great... it's good for us girls to meet up... we had dinner at avenue joffre which we dont recommend... despite nice decorations and live mandarin songs... it's ordinary shanghai food served faster than cafe de coral at a price of times square restaurants... the presents this yr were glamorous... me hope the bday gals luv them... esp. i hope my idol likes mine...

i enjoyed myself very much at shelter, i hope so do our friends... it's really cool to meet all the old friends... thanks to all his friends who turned up to make the night a fab one... special thanks to jjj who took care of things for us...

me always delighted to meet old friends... and guess what, one of my buddies is becoming a pilot... o gee.. i'm having a lady pilot friend... omg... look i'm pretty excited still when i talk about it...

the golden ying

ha i finally took pictures of the golden ying today... took yrs between it's said and done... it's a nice day for pictures... he looks really handsome... i almost said "one, two, three, cheese"...

he just celebrated his eleventh birthday without me... today i discovered another minor problem... think he'll be in hospital soon... i always fear that he'll suddenly leave me one day without saying goodbye... then i wont have any chance to take pictures... i shall remind myself to take more pictures for him... actually i hv a friend who fancy taking car photos... um... i want him to come so he can take pictures of the golden ying when i'm driving... like those in posters... very ful...

too bad Hello isnt replying me... would be more fun if i can post some pictures here...
