andropausal men

this is my happy week...

had only one call this week in the convalescent block... plus 2 days without duty... ie no clinic no meeting no grand round whatsoever... purely ward round and wait until 5.10pm to to start my blue ying each day... and prepare for the long weekend trip to qingdao with my rabbit...

there's a tiny piece imperfection... my plan was to discharge as many patients as possible by the end of the week... becoz i'm expecting a heavy load of new cases by the time i'm back... next week will be tough... i'm having 2 calls without postcall dayoffs plus grand rounds and unit meetings... it's going to be the unhappy week...

the plan didn't go right... it's thursday and i have plenty of time but none of my patients is fit to go... zero is a deadly figure... signifying there's pure input and no output... it's worse than constipation... it's basically intestinal obstruction... what's more i don't have a channel to vomit... so it's close-loop IO... a fatal scene...

what's more i'm bad luck enough to have some very "un-ding-able" patients (long since i used this word!)... they are men in their andropausal age... being very anxious looking and very concerned about their health... asking the same questions about the same tablets and investigations each morning... and bombarding me and my senior to offer all kinds of investigation within the same day... o gee...

i wish i have harry potter's gown so that i can disappear each time i walked into that very ward... this chap will appear next to me no matter what time and what i was doing and nagging me about the same things which i have explained to him a cillion times over the past few days... a few of them were powerful enough to drive me crazy today...

i don't mean to offend these people... i believe i still have the passion to "take good care" of my patients... but don't think women are troublesome... the neurotic men are even terrifying... one of my patients had a "reminder" entered in the computer by another doctor to be "a manipulative patient"... another had an "alert" in the computer saying "history of violence towards medical staff"... this is not funny...

post call day

it's kinda upset to be on call on sundays... got much longer working hours and more nasty things to do... yesterday was quite okay... though we had plenty admissions during the day... i had my protected sleep time from midnight to 4am... then i'm the only doctor in the department from 4 to 9... admissions were extraordinarily little... only 2 cases during those 5 hours... pity i aint that lucky... i had 2 very ill patients to see... i had no time to go back to bed but managed to finish ward round by 9 and left the hospital by 11... my personal best record...

i have more time on my post call day... so i decided to do something... headed home for lunch... then i went perming my hair for the very first time in my life!!! now i'm a squirrel with long wavy hair... haha...

next i purchased this best book of the year...

i'm one of the authors in this book, heehee... this is my 2nd time to have something "published"... very happy that it's finally published... they're now doing a 15% off in the commercial press... get one and find out how crap my writing is...

i gave blood before heading home... last did it 7 months ago... good time since it's not crowded...

le pain grille

visited the agnes b restaurant yesterday... ha, am so "in"... it's a small restaurant but neat and nice... people walked in even after 10pm... it wasn't too expensive, food and menu were kinda ordinary... you can find a taste of french in tiny things though... the soupe de poisson, salad nicoise, garlic mayonnaise and presse!!! all reminded me of my trip to nice a few summers ago...

today's the black friday and more importantly, dad's birthday... he's having great fun in a new zealand vineyard with his girl ie mum... may i wish my yingyingbird happy and good health... btw... there's a term for the fear of black friday... paraskavedekatriaphobia... a very diffcult word even for medics... der...

presentation

gonna present in unit meeting on thursday... just picked the topic late sunday because i was playing so hard during the weekend (had fab bbq on two consecutive days!!!)... it's nothing big really... but long since i concentrate/work on anything... have no idea how i'm gonna do it... i'm gonna present for some 45 minutes... and all my audience know the stuff better than me since i'm the most junior plus brainless person there... aiya... so frustrated...

squirrel massacre

they're thinking of killing the poor squirrels in california becoz they attack humans and steal their cookies... isn't it a bit selfish... look they're not spreading germs... only a handful of them scratched a few kids... okay our kids are precious, but squirrels are lives, too... look if the kids play in tiger parks they may even be eaten up... but we don't kill tigers... we don't go to their parks... it's time we'd learn to live with the animals... we don't kill everything front of us for our convenience...
