thank you for dropping by

in hk, paces usually take place in 5 different hospitals (one each day) during the examination week. QMH & KWH are two of the centres. i think KWH is a center in the oct 09 diet. it is therefore less likely to be a center in mar 2010.

QMH is the teaching hospital of the university of HK, where KWH is a government service hospital. i hv no idea which carry a higher pass rate. i believe the passing rate is more determined by examiners & the day of exam. (i hv a feeling they fail more ppl on day 1)

anyways, hope this helps & good luck!

Dear Dr.Kewa

How are you, hope fine?
I am the one who asked you last month about the paces in HK.

Infact, I would like to ask few questions, and I hope that you can help me if you don't mind:

1_ you said (QMH & KWH are two of the centers. I think KWH is a center in the Oct 09 diet. it is therefore less likely to be a center in mar 2010.))

Infact, I don't understand fully, I mean what do you mean the center in March?
As I understood early from you that there are 5 centers in HK, and each day at a different hospital, so would you mind to clarify moreā€¦

2_would the exams be held at these Hospitals?

QMH queen Mary H
PMH princess Margaret H
KWH kwong wah H
PWH Prince of Wales Hospital
PYNEH Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

Would you mind please to clarify which Hospital is a tertiary center??
(I.e. more sophisticated cases) ;-)

3_ do you advice me to take a course in HK before I do my exam there, ((as I am working in Malaysia, and we are dealing with Chinese people with every day)

4_ how is the English level in Hong Kong paces patients??
In Malaysia is it` fair no more,

Finally, thank you so much

I really appreciate your help to me

Thanxxxxxxxxxx

G.R.

hello there...

there're actually quite some hospitals (more than 5) which hold paces exam in hk... there're, with few exception, 2 paces exam each yr in hk, march & october... one center usually do not hold 2 consecutive paces exams, ie the 5 centers which held paces in oct 09 are very unlikely the exam centers in march 2010...

QMH & PWH are the 2 teaching hospitals of the 2 medical schools, ie the teritiary centers... the other three are large service hospitals in hk...

if i remember correctly, paces oct 09 took place in PYNEH, KWH & PWH and 2 other (i don't know which)...
i think PMH & QMH were not centers in oct 09 (though not 100% sure)

i haven't heard of any paces course in hk... so i have no clue... there's a "mock exam" on the "talking stations" few weeks before the real exam lead by some uk examiners... i'm not sure whether it's limited to local trainees, it gives you the feel of exam setting but not very helpful really...

older patients in hk generally do not speak english... how do you usually interact with your chinese patient's during routine physical exams??

the surrogates in history & counselling stations speak fluent english, shouldn't be a problem... but for the new station 5, i heard that either it's an english-speaking patient, or a cantonese-speaking patient with a translator (that would be a little time-consuming) but i haven't personally sit for the new paces so again i don't know what actually happened during the last exam...

and for the last question, i'm again sorry i have no idea how paces is like in the uk...

hope it helps & good luck!
